Holidays Coming Early
We were out walking and came upon this place that was already fully decorated for the holidays - seems a lot of people just go ahead and put up the lights when they get here - - part of their set up process for the winter.
I took a huge load of stuff to Goodwill this week - most of it things that the previous owner had left and that we didn’t need. Just didn’t seem right to try and sell it at a yard sell - sure someone else will make good use of the things that were duplicates of things we already have.
We decided to establish some medical care here rather than trying to hike to Texas each year for a short period of time. We’ve reached the age when just a couple of days really isn’t enough time to get everything done. So this year we will probably spend a little more time with physicians than Dave would like and get things in place so come April 13th we can go explore for 6 months!
Since it has been 9 years since I’ve cooked a turkey, I was a little apprehensive, but went ahead and invited friends to join us. Dan & Tina came for dinner and later Dave & Toni joined us for desert.
We ate out in the patio area - it was a perfect afternoon/evening to do it since the temperature was 84 in the afternoon. We all felt for those shoveling snow on Thanksgiving Day and were awfully glad that we weren’t the ones doing the shoveling. We also decided that a trip to the Sugar Bowl is on tap for the coming week, especially since Dan & Tina have never been there. And a trip to the Musical Instrument Museum is in the near future as Dave & Toni haven’t been there. We do enjoy introducing friends to our favorite haunts in the Valley of the Sun.
We’ve gotten out our Christmas decorations and are trying to figure out what will work and then what else we need. Probably not a lot this year, we will just have to see how it goes. I did make a great purchase out at the Mesa Market Place (a great Sunday jaunt) - the placemats for dinner had a Thanksgiving theme on one side and the other is a Christmas theme. Great idea since they will only be used for a short time!
The long term forecast for the valley is pretty much a duplicate of last year - very mild temperatures and little rain. While great for those that come for a warm winter, they really do need rain here and especially up in the mountains.
It will be interesting to see how many people come in during the next few weeks as opposed to how many come in after Christmas. Though we do know a lot who come and then fly back to visit family for Christmas and then return for the rest of the winter. Something we will consider for next year.
